Winston Wayne Ambrose, age 80, of Butler, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Bates County Memorial Hospital, in Butler. He was born March 11, 1927, to John and Blanch Leslie Ambrose, in Russellville, Mo. Winston, one of four children, graduated from Jefferson City High School where he was class president, a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and receipent of the "Best Foot Forward" award. ...

Gary Eugene Rose, 60, formerly of Uniontown, Kan., presently of St. Francis, Kan., died Wednesday, Dec.19, 2007, in Denver, Colo. He was born Sept. 1, 1947, in Uniontown, Kan., the son of Floyd Arthur and Anna Marie (Warren) Rose. He married Dorothy Gates, they later divorced. She preceded him in death in 1997. He later married JoAnn Wilkes, they also later divorced. She preceded him in death in 2005. He then married Ronda Flint, in Paxton, Neb., Dec. 18, 1993. She preceded him in death in 2006...

Mishaps darkened the holidays for some in Vernon County. A Polk County man was killed in an apparent hunting accident on Sunday, Dec. 24, at Four Rivers Conservation Area and a Harwood man suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash on Saturday, Dec. 23...

A man from Humansville was killed while on a duck hunting trip to the Four Rivers Conservation Area in northern Vernon County. Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman said the incident happened at approximately noon on Sunday. "We got a call there had been a hunting accident in the Four Rivers area," Peckman said. "A 38-year-old man was fatally shot while duck hunting with a partner. The wound was located in the back."...
