R-1 school holds final rally for new building, tax increase proposal before Tuesday election

Northeast Vernon County R-1 School District Superintendent Chuck Naas showed the floor plan of a proposed new school facility Saturday, April 5, which has been computer generated using official sites as to the required footage per student and showed in general what the building would be like. These plans were not to scale pending results of the election on Tuesday requesting voters pass a raise in the districts tax levy to help fund the new building. There were also graphs showing assessed valuation, debt service levy, projected collection rate. The increased tax proposal will be on the April 8 ballot for Vernon County voters living within the district.

Nevada car lot struck by early morning fire reports $20,000 in damages

Nevada fire crews cut away a steel wall in Barker Auto Sales to release built up water and ventilate the building after an electrical wire shorted out and ignited insulation around 1 a.m. Saturday.
