Red Sox take third in Champion Diamonds tournament

The Nevada Red Sox finished third at the Champion Diamonds 18 and under tournament this past weekend. The Red Sox lost the tournament opener Saturday afternoon against the St. Louis Eagles, 7-3, but were able to knock off the Bentonville Tigers later in the day, 9-8. Sunday's action gave the Red Sox another chance at the St. Louis Eagles, in which Nevada was able to capitalize, earning a 9-0 win after a five inning one-hitter pitched by Ryan Austin...

The 44th annual Bushwhacker parade, themed "A Time to Reconnect," featured more than 75 entries Saturday evening. Entries competed for honors in five categories, with a float by Vernon County People for Pets taking home the Best of Parade honor. First place went to Elliott's Scouts in the adult category; the Kids 4 Christ float, First Christian Church, in the youth category; the Nevada Daily Mail in the business category; Frank and Pat Arnold in the antique vehicle category; and Jocelyn Davis in the equestrian category.. ...

Council to discuss water and sewer rates tonight

The Nevada City Council will be considering two ordinances during tonight's council meeting that will raise almost all residents' water and sewer bills to cover increases in operating costs and for the reserve funds used for equipment and repairs. One proposed ordinance will raise the rate for water by 17 cents per 1,000 gallons for users who use between 1,000 and 50,000 gallons per month. There is no rate change proposed for consumption of less than 1,000 gallons or more than 50,000...

Quilt show draws a crowd

Hundreds of people filed through the City/County Community Center in Nevada on Saturday, for the annual Bushwhacker Quilt Guild Show. Dozens of quilts were displayed, including challenge quilt projects created by the guild's members, a collection of quilts for the Quilts of Valor program, which provides comforting quilts for wounded members of the military, and a special display of quilts created for the Quilted Hugs program, an effort initiated by the guild's own Ann Jones, which provides quilts symbolizing the comforts of home to those serving overseas.. ...
