A total of 100 units of blood were collected during the recent visit of the American Red Cross Bloodmobile to Nevada. Cindy Buck, Nevada Regional Medical Center Chief Financial Officer, received an award from Quorum Health Resources as CFO of the year. CEO Judy Feuquay presented Buck the award at Tuesday's board of director's meeting. "We celebrate the award of Cindy Buck as CFO of the Year for the QHR hospitals," Feuquay said. "This honor was bestowed on Cindy during the CFO conference in Nashville earlier this month. We are proud of Cindy and her accomplishments."...

Maynard Emery Thompson, 71, Leavenworth, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo., following an illness of several weeks. He was born Feb. 15, 1937, in St. Paul, Kan., to Thomas Edward Thompson and Maxine Geraldine Klinefelter Thompson. Juanita Irene (Wilson) Bales, 77, Houston, Texas formerly of Bronaugh, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at her residence in Houston, Texas. She was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Bolivar, Mo., to Elza Wilson and Sarah Allie Williams Wilson. She was married May 5, 1951, in Nevada, to Billy Mac Bales and he preceded her in death Jan. 2, 2008...

The Nevada Lady Tigers golf team competed in the Colgan Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Nevada finished fifth of the 10 teams that competed in the tournament, posting a total team score of 437. Three Lady Tiger golfers finished very close together near the top 10 in individual scores...

The Hume Hornets baseball team defeated Golden City 7-0 Monday afternoon. The Hornets put up individual runs in the first, third and fifth innings before a four-run sixth capped off the shutout. Senior Ryan Austin pitched the entire shutout effort, earning another no-hitter with 17 strikeouts...

The Nevada Lady Tiger tennis team competed against Fort Scott Tuesday afternoon with distinct success. The Lady Tigers were able to take down Fort Scott by a final score of 9-0 in the match, taking shutout victories in all but two singles contests along with both doubles matches. Whitley Del Rosario, Cheyenne Whitson, Leah Creasy and Caitlin Wagner all notched shutouts in their singles match wins...

The Nevada Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams competed at Lamar Tuesday night. Lamar was able to stay competitive in both of the seventh grade matches, but Nevada was still able to pull of the win. The B team took down Lamar in two sets 25-16, 25-15 while the A team needed three sets to pull of the win by a final score of 25-15, 20-25, 25-17...
