Darryl Leon Wise, age 58, resident of Fort Scott, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, Feb. 3, 2009, at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born Dec. 16, 1950, in Oakdale, Calif., the son of Huber Leon Wise and Ruby Nelle Reavis Wise. Darryl married Alona Brown on July 1, 1972, at Fort Scott. He had worked for several years at Wood's Auto Body Repair in Nevada. At the time of his death, he was employed by Extrusions in Fort Scott. The Cottey College Comets' home streak finally ended and they were on the road Tuesday evening to Trenton, Mo., where the Comets defeated North Central Missouri College 82-79. El Dorado Springs man killed in Feb. 4 one-vehicle crash on U.S. 54

An El Dorado Springs man died from his injuries in a one-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. 54 Highway, about six miles west of El Dorado Springs early Wednesday morning. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28-year-old Clarence W. Bartram was traveling east on U.S. 54 at about 4:30 a.m., when the 1996 Dodge Ram pickup he was driving went off the roadway, struck and embankment and overturned. We have had a house cat named Pumpkin for a little over a year. Our great-granddaughter, Marilyn, found him as a tiny kitten in a shed behind our house. He was cold, hungry and scared. That was probably the luckiest day of his life because since then he has been running our household very ably with only a personal maid and various other attentive humans...

Plans are in the works that could move some hab center residents to other housing

Although Benton Hall is safe for the time being, plans are in the works, unrelated to now abandoned plans to close Benton Hall, to place some state residents in Individualized Supported Living units (ISLs). Chris Baker, Nevada Habilitation Center Superintendent, said that the plans actually predate Governor Nixon's short-lived plan to close Benton Hall by a month or more...
