The Cottey Comet softball team wrapped a terrific inaugural season in the NAIA with a double-dip sweep of Sterling (Kan.) College on Thursday. Cottey (22-2) took the opener, 2-0, and then rolled to a 15-5 victory in the nightcap. Cottey ace Kirsten Wallace spun a seven-inning complete-game shutout in the opener, yielding just three hits, while fanning three. Mary Louise (McCarthy) Prewitt, 93, formerly of Walker, Mo., passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada. Mary was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Chillicothe, Mo., to Nolan Francis and Coila Ada (Lafferty) McCarthy. Mary graduated from Chillicothe High School and moved to Kansas City with her sister Blanche upon graduation and did factory work there for a short period of time. ...
