Hospital board affirms vote to use products from Community Blood Center for blood supply

Wednesday, June 25, 2003

The Nevada Regional Medical Center board met last night with a short list of items on the agenda. Phil Vinyard, board president, wryly observed that with such a short agenda the meeting would probably last for four hours but was proved wrong as the board managed to conduct the meeting within an hour. Denise Sloniker told the board the recent survey of the Moore-Few facility had been completed and was very successful, with only one deficiency being reported. Sloniker said the surveyors weren't sure how to categorize the lone problem but thought it might probably be labeled as a problem with documentation. Robert Ohlen, CEO, reported that for the second year in a row the state was withholding an estimated $225,000 Medicaid payment scheduled for this month. The board voted to transfer funds temporarily from another account to offset the state's action. In addition, the board approved a contract with PhyAmerica, Durham, N.C., to supply doctors to staff the emergency room. Ohlen said Dr. William Corporon, Duncan, Okla., is to be the medical director. The board also voted a second time to approve a contract with Community Blood Center to supply blood to the hospital. Ohlen estimated the annual savings at $40,000. The board voted to accept the finance committee's recommendation to reject Dr. Stephen Goldberger's re-quest to have his moving expenses reimbursed. The board voiced opposition to paying for moving within the city after having paid to relocate a doctor from outside the area. The board voted to renew contracts with Dr. Fadi Nicolas and Dr. John Cox as well as a contract with Kansas City Neurology for EEG interpretations. It also voted to purchase a NovaSure RF Controller for Gynecology as well as a Neoprobe 2000 Gamma Detection System for use by surgeons. Ohlen told the board that one of the requirements the board had to the city council is to prepare a report on the strategic partners of Quorum Health Care. He added that the the report is ready and will be transmitted to the Nevada City Council for the sake of providing information.
