Tigers drubbed by Mustangs
Nevada coach Chris Garzone called it a "taste of reality."
After a season opening win on Monday, the Lady Tigers (1-1) opened the Southwest Conference schedule with an 18-1 five inning run-rule loss to McDonald County on Tuesday at Bushwhacker Field.
"We need to understand that we have to play at a higher level in the conference," said Garzone. "But our girls work hard and they will just continue to get better."
Wildness plagued opening-game winner Bridget Baldwin from the outset. Baldwin battled, but a lack of control led to a five-run first inning and the Lady Mustangs added eight in the second to take a commanding 13-0 lead.
Said Garzone, "Take away the first couple of innings and the score wasn't as bad as it looks."
On the offensive side, the Tigers managed only one hit, a line single up the middle in the third inning by sophomore second baseman Mallori Adams.
Nevada scored its only run on a bases loaded walk in the fourth.
