Third-inning rain cancels Griffons game

Thursday, June 26, 2003

Rain and lightning put an end to Wednesday night's Griffons game against the El Dorado, Kan., Broncos during the third inning. The rain began during the first inning and worsened until rain delayed the game, after the top half of the third inning, with both teams scoreless. After a delay of more than an hour, play resumed. A short time later, lightning cinched the umpire's decision to call the game, but not before Griffons outfielder Josh Thomas scored a run on a double by Kirk McConnell, giving the Griffons a 1-0 lead. Last night's double-header was called off with no game recorded. One game is rescheduled to a date to be announced later; the other is tentatively scheduled for July 8 in a double-header, when the Griffons meet the Broncos again.
