Timmerman unseats Simmons for late model points lead; Chrisenbery, Morrow, Rose stand fast
Hot-air balloons in the air above the track, an excellent racing field and a full moon in the sky is how Gail Agee, Nevada Speedway reporter, described the setting at Bushwhacker weekend racing at the 1/4-mile dirt track on Saturday. One major development on the track saw a new points leader emerge in the Late model division. Donnie Timmerman of El Dorado Springs overtook season-long leader Jack Simmons of Erie, Kan., to move into the top spot -- 1580 for Timmerman to 1550 for Simmons. Bronaugh driver Denny Chrisenbery remained king of the street stock division with his fifth win of the year, while Nevada's Kevin Morrow stayed atop the Modified class with his fourth feature win. Matt Rose of Liberal also claimed victory No. 5 in the Mini-stock class to hold on to his comfortable points' lead. In the special Midwest Outlaw Mini-Sprint race, Phil Heavelow of Buckner led throughout to take the checkered flag.
