The Town of Metz was almost swept off the map. Nine buildings destroyed but luckily no lives were lost. Several head of stock were killed in the County and over three hundred little sparrows were killed at the Asylum. Metz, Vernon County and adjoining counties were visited by an unusual severe windstorm accompanied by a drenching rain and much lightning and as a result considerable damage was done to property. No reports of people being injured in Metz but at Yale and Minden, Kansas, a number were injured. The storm did more damage so far as reports received at this time at Yale and Minden, Kansas, the two large mining camps.

A free test of the motorist's driving skill on a scientific-built machine will be a feature of the Chevrolet All-Star Show to appear in the showrooms of the Irv. Cobb Chevrolet Company, 124 East Walnut, August 11, 12, 13 and 14. The Driver Skill-O-Meter, developed and engineered especially for the show, scientifically measures the factors that determine an individual's driving ability. The test is simple and every person who takes it will receive a billfold size card showing an evaluation of his performance. EAST HARRISON -- This community was shocked and saddened by the death of Thurman Funk Tuesday morning. Practically all his life was spent in this vicinity. We join in extending sympathy to his family. A family gathering was held at the Homer Maple home Sunday in honor or Mr. and Mrs. John McPhail of Detroit and Mrs. Ora Friel and daughter and granddaughters of Homedale, Idaho. The home of Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, was the scene of a pleasant occasion Sunday when their eight children gathered for a family reunion for the first time in 12 years.
