John Edgar Sherman

John Edgar Sherman, 85, of Nevada, died Nov. 30, 2003. He was born on March 17, 1918 in Cedar County to William Henry and Mina Ellen Waller Sherman. He lived his childhood on a farm in and around El Dorado Springs.

On Nov. 24, 1942, he married Ruby Maddalin Hargrove, and to this union three daughters and one son was born; Toni Kay, Thelma Rae, Rita Mae and Jack Evan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glen; and his grandson, William John Sherman. Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of the home; his children, Toni Kay Decker, Eau Claire, Wis., Thelma Rae Pettibon and husband Larry, Gower, Mo., Rita Mae Anderson and husband Ed, Richmond, Kan., and Jack Evan Sherman and wife JoAnne, Enterprise, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, Ronda Decker Pepper and husband Tom; Robert Decker; Terry Bentz and wife Bria; Andy Bentz and wife Kim, Darcy Anderson Hahn and husband Jeral; Jared Anderson, Kyle Anderson, Josh Sherman, Joseph Sherman and Andrea Sherman; four great-grandchildren, Ariel Kovar, Derek Kovar, Jordyn Decker and Carter Bentz; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for John Edgar Sherman will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. John Nichols officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Robert Decker, Terry Bentz, Andy Bentz, Jared Anderson, Kyle Anderson and Jeral Hahn. Honorary pallbearers were Ronda Pepper, Darcy Hahn, Andrea Sherman, Joseph Sherman, Josh Sherman, Allen Hargrove, Charles Hargrove and Richard Hargrove.
