Marian A. Butler
Marian A. Butler, 101, Raymore, Mo., formerly of Nevada, Mo., died Dec. 12, 2003, at Foxwood Springs, Raymore, Mo. She was born on June 28, 1902, in Charlestown, Ind., the daughter of James H. and Bessie M. Waters Ruddell. On June 2, 1934, she married Edgar W. Butler in Fort Scott, Kan., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1975.
Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Fort Scott High School and attended Fort Scott Junior College and received her B.S. degree from Pittsburg State University in 1926. Mrs. Butler taught school in Fort Scott, LeRoy and Lions, Kan. She moved to Nevada and taught in the R-5 school system from 1948 until her retirement in 1964.
She was a member of the Raymore Christian Church and a former member of the First Christian Church in Nevada. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan E. Stevens and her husband Doyle, of Gardner, Kan.; one step-son, Edgar Butler and his wife Betty, of Atchison, Kan.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson.
Graveside service will be held at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan., on Monday, Dec. 15, at 2:30 p.m., with Mr. Darrell Stevens officiating. Friends may call after 1 p.m., Sunday, at Evergreen Memorial Chapel and the family will receive friends on Monday from 12:30 until 1:50 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
