Obie A. Smith

Obie A. Smith, 72, Nevada, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Research Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. He was born Aug. 9, 1931, in rural Pine Creek, Mo., to Sigle Auston and Carrie Newton Smith. He married June Gillespie on June 12, 1959, in Kansas City, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Mr. Smith grew up near Zanoni, Mo. He joined the U.S. Marines serving from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He then served in the Marine Reserves from 1955 to 1960. Obie and his wife came to Nevada in 1968 and he worked in construction in Nevada and Texas until his retirement in 1988.

Survivors in addition to his wife June, include one son, Thad Smith, Conroe, Texas; two daughters, Cathy Ross, Carl Junction, Mo., and Karen Delgado, Laredo, Texas; three grandsons, one great-grandchild, five brothers and seven sisters. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday at the funeral home.
