Hazel J. Hackett
Hazel J. Hackett, 91, Appleton City, Mo., formerly of Nevada, Mo., passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Appleton City Manor following a short illness. She was born March 14, 1912, in Moundville, Mo., to Jesse John King and Ada Mae Burnsworth King. She married Lavon H. Hackett on Nov. 13, 1936, in Independence, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2003.
Mrs. Hackett was a graduate of Nevada High School and a member of the First Christian Church. She lived nearly all of her live in Vernon County. She worked at Cottey College as a cook for several years and she worked nearly all her life with her husband on their farm near Nevada. She has spent the past two years in Appleton City to be near her son.
Survivors include one son, Gary Hackett and his wife Edna, Appleton City, Mo.; two granddaughters, Carolyn Bishop, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Lorrie Hackett, Clinton, Mo.; one grandson, Tom Hackett, Nevada, Mo., and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Lavon, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with Pastor David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service.
Memorials may be given to the Moore Cemetery Association or the First Christian Church in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo.
