100 Years Ago -- February 15, 1904

The City Democratic Central Committee will meet tonight to again take up the W.B. Schnatterly contest of the nomination of George T. Stump for mayor as voted by the recent city primary. A member of the Committee stated to a Mail Representative that he believed the committee had no jurisdiction in the matter of a contest; that the city committee was not a judicial body. The meeting to be held tonight is for the purpose of determining whether the committee has jurisdiction. If the committee decides it has no jurisdiction the committee will take no action upon the contest instituted by Schnatterly.

75 Years Ago -- February 15, 1929

The clean-up in the Dederick Bank robbery case is, as has been formerly stated in these columns, a warning to all violators that Vernon County is a dangerous place for them and this warning has been broadcast over the whole country.

Messages sent by the Daily Mail and Post covering the case have appeared not only in the newspapers of this state but other states and were carried over the nation by the Associated Press and the International News Service.

50 Years Ago -- February 15, 1954

CHURCH NEWS -- Approximately 285 persons were present Sunday for the semi-annual conference of the Rich Hill District of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which was held here Sunday at the M.F.A. Hall and at the local church. Missionary W.E. Williams of Nevada presided at the session. Following prayer services at 9:30, the guest speaker for the morning service was Elder Charles D. Neff, assistant to the first presidency of Independence. His theme was "I recognize God." Services for the juniors and kindergarteners and youngsters were held at the M.F.A. Hall under the direction of Mrs. W.E. Williams and Mrs. Harold Mahurin.

BETHEL BITS -- Mr. and Mrs. Curt Woods attended the funeral of J.B. Journey held in Nevada Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer Cooper spent with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Shannon and family of Hume. Mr. Shannon is still walking on crutches as a result of a fractured heel last fall. Mrs. Cora Payne of Nevada is recuperating from an attack of pneumonia in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Carter. This is the second time this winter that Payne has had pneumonia.
