Harold Junior Schmoranz
Harold Junior Schmoranz, 81, Sheldon, Mo., died March 1, 2004, at Lakeview Healthcare Center, Lamar, Mo., following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Marshalltown, Idaho, to Henry Schmoranz and Vera Beatrice Lucas Schmoranz. He married Irene Fields on March 24, 1946, in Marshalltown, Idaho, and she preceded him in death on July 20, 1997.
Harold was born and raised in Marshalltown, Idaho, and spent his youth there. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Following the war, he returned to Marshalltown where he worked a variety of jobs. He moved to California and spent 23 years there. He moved to Sheldon in 1972 and has resided there since. He worked for many years in maintenance at Cottey College. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Sheldon, Mo., Sheldon Lions Club, Sheldon American Legion and also served as mayor of Sheldon.
Survivors include three sons, Harold Nicholas Schmoranz and Rodney Schmoranz, both of Lamar, Mo., and David Kevin Schmoranz, Lockwood, Mo.; five daughters, Lleona Carpenter, Sheldon, Mo., Linda Burrell, Cumming, Ga., Nancy Holton, Soquel, Calif., Rebecca Scholes, Mindenmines, Mo., and Ramona Smith, Lamar, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leland Schmoranz, Elizabethtown, Ken.; and one sister, Esther Meeker, Grinell, Idaho. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Crystal Schmoranz and A.L. Schmoranz, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2004, at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home, Sheldon, Mo. Interment will follow in Tolson Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
