Local youth baseball team opens season with tourney title

The Mo-Kan Rebels, a competitive team comprised of local 14-year-old boys, opened the 2004 season by winning their first tournament at Baseball City in Fordland, Mo., on March 13-14.

The Rebels compiled a 4-0 record in the two-day tournament.

Members of the team include Ben Compton, Kyle Hughes and Jordan Kerbs of Nevada; Colton Higgins of Lamar, Mo.; Steven Caudill of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; Dexter Patton of Walker, Mo.; John Leek and Cole Pruitt of Fort Scott, Kan.; and Cameron Beaver, Jordan Hickman, Alan Pink and Jerick Swarens of Webb City, Mo.

League play convenes this week at the Four Seasons Sports Complex in Joplin, Mo., and next tournament action is scheduled for March 27-28 in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Team sponsors include the MFA of Lamar, Heritage State Bank, MC Sports, Missouri Eagle, Ward Kraft, Higgins Pallets and Dr. Scott Compton.
