Velda M. Diggins

Velda M. Diggins, 79, Moundville, Mo., died March 23, 2004, at her residence. She was born March 12, 1925, in Norton County, Kan., the daughter of Pearl Nicholas and Ida Leugenis Lamb Elson. On May 15, 1943, she married Ivan Diggins in Norton, Kan.

Mrs. Diggins was a clerk at the former Thriftway Grocery store until her retirement. She was a member of the Sylvan Dale Baptist Church. She had also a member of the Triple T. Club in Norton, Kan.

She is survived by four sons, Steve Diggins, Sheldon, Gary Diggins, Rodney Diggins and David Diggins, all of Moundville; one daughter, Penny Thomas, Rayville, Mo.; one brother, Gaylord Elson, Denver, Colo.; and a sister, Leta Roth, Butler, Penn.; her former husband, Ivan Diggins, Sheldon; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be held at Moore Cemetery, Friday, March 26, at 3 p.m., with Mr. John Nichols officiating. Friends may call after 1 p.m., Thursday and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association in care of Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
