Cleo Ione Barrett
Cleo Ione Barrett, 81, Nevada, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, following a brief illness. She was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Nevada, to Floyd Walter Smith and Inez Margaret Jones.
Cleo was born and raised in Nevada, and graduated from Nevada High School in 1940. After the war, she married Chester Barrett and to this union three children were born. She worked as head of word processing at Farm and Home Savings for 37 years, retiring in 1989. She was a Baptist. Cleo was a member of the Domestic Science Club and was also involved in numerous organizations in her church. She was known for her kindness and generosity with everyone she came in contact with.
Survivors include two sons, Chris Barrett, and his wife, Brenda, Nevada, and Carey Barrett and his wife, Holly, Little Rock, Ark.; one daughter, Colleen Barrett, Nevada; three grandchildren, Joseph and Sarah Barrett, Texarkana, Texas, and Jonni Wolfe, Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Jewell Faye Durst, Nevada, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Estel and Russell Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Pallative Care Unit in care of St. John's hospital, Joplin, or the Moore Cemetery Association.
