City to close Washington Street during Bushwhacker Days carnival

The city plans to close Washington Street to traffic between Hunter Street on the north and the TeamBank driveway at 5 o'clock tonight and at 5 p.m. Thursday. The downtown street will also be closed beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and remain closed until Bushwhacker Days activities end on Saturday night.

City officials said during a city council meeting Tuesday night that they are closing the street for the safety of the people they expect to travel between the carnival location on Hunter Street and the location near the corner of Washington and Walnut streets.
