J.M. Sommers transferred to Osawatomie division

J.M. Sommers, division superintendent of the Missouri Pacific Railway at Nevada, was succeeded this morning by E.M. Hogle of Jefferson City.

Sommers is transferred to Osawatomie. This is a more desirable position to Sommers; who has proven himself both active and proficient in his work on this division.

The Mail regrets the transfer of Sommers from Nevada as he is a most genial gentleman, as well as a fully equipped railroader. His family recently took up their home here from Wichita, and they will probably remain in Nevada for some little time.

Working on plans for Nixon's visit here on Sept. 17

The committee in charge of arrangements for Vice President Richard Nixon's visit to Nevada, Sept. 17, met Friday night at the Birdseye Abstract Co., with Chairman Don Russell to work out details for the program.

Russell told committee members that the vice president's scheduled appearance here is creating a wide interest in Missouri and Kansas. Russell said that a number of radio and TV stations have made inquiries in regard to broadcasting the program.

Nixon is scheduled to make a speech on the Courthouse square at 1 p.m. in behalf of Congressman Jeff Hillelson, who is seeking re-election on the Republican ticket from the district. The vice president is stumping for Republican senatorial and congressional candidates in several states.
