Nevada golf finishes sixth

The Nevada golf team played their first 18-hole tournament of the season Thursday, and it showed in their scores.
The Lady Tigers did not play poorly, but the long course and prolonged play was definitely a factor as the team finished sixth in the 10-team field.
Fort Scott won the tournament held in Girard, Kan., shooting a 385. That was 77 shots better than Nevada's 462.
The Nevada Lady Tigers were led by Tabitha Pitts and Aubrey Jones who both shot 114.
Rachel Prewitt and Emily Benbrook were not far behind, carding 115 and 119, respectively.
Coach Kelly Gray was encouraged with the team's effort.
"I was proud of the girls for sticking it out," Gray said.
The Tigers are in action again Monday as they play 18 holes again, this time at the Island Green Country Club in Republic.
