NMS Lady Tigers beat Carl Junction

The Nevada Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team beat Carl Junction in both the A-team and B-team matches in Nevada Monday.

The A-team (6-2) came from behind after falling in the first game, 25-19. Nevada was able to wrestle the second game away from the visitors 27-25, before putting them away in the third game, 25-15. Kori Lowery and Taylor Means led the A-team with six points each.

In the B-team (7-1) match Nevada swept two hard-contested games, 25-23 and 25-23.

The seventh-grade team also played Monday, on the heels of their tournament Saturday.

Nevada beat El Dorado Springs in both A-team and B-team matches Monday.

The A-team match was won 25-12 and 25-17. The B-team score was closer, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-23.

Audrey Daniels led the A-team with 16 points, while Lauren Klinksick led the B-team with 17.

That leaves the A-team at 10-3 this season, which also includes their second-place finish in their own tournament.

The Lady Tigers finished second in the Crimson Division Saturday, winning their first three matches before falling to Webb City for the division championship.

Nevada beat Joplin South 25-9 and 25-15 to open the tournament. Then they beat Lamar 25-17 and 25-12 in their second match.

Nevada downed Joplin North 27-25 and 25-18 to advance to play Webb City for first place in the division.

Webb City was too tough for Nevada though, as they won 25-15 and 25-19.

Tournament scoring leaders included Taylor Beckett, who led the team with 29 points. Daniels had 25 points and Mariah Mock had 18.

The B-team did not participate in the tournament. Their record after defeating El Dorado Springs is 10-1.
