A Webb City man died after a Nov. 26 hunting accident in Barton County. John M. Boyer, 35, of Webb City was hunting with a black powder rifle in the Shawnee Trails Wildlife Area south of Mindenmines when the rifle fell from the deer stand he was on and discharged, striking him in the lower body.
Boyer used his cell phone to call 911 and report the accident. Officers from the Barton County Sheriff's Department, Missouri Highway Patrol, emergency workers from the Barton County Ambulance, Lamar Fire Department, and the Mindenmines Fire Department spent several minutes searching before finding Boyer approximately one-half mile off the road, after the call came in at about 1:45 p.m.
An Eagle-Med Helicopter landed at the scene and transported Boyer to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, where he later died from his wounds.
