Charles "Chuck" Darrell Swiney
Charles "Chuck" Darrell Swiney, Nevada, passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 14, 2005, after a sudden illness. He was born on Feb. 28, 1934, to Charles Thurman Swiney and Flossie May Camden Swiney in Reynolds County, Missouri. He was joined in marriage to Loretta Leimkiller on July 10, 1970.
Chuck owned and operated Vernon County Plumbing for many years. He was a Pentecostal minister in Chanute, Kan., and Nevada for several years. He was a very loving family man and a very devout Christian. Chuck served in the U.S. Navy from April 1952 to April 1956. He served aboard the U.S.S. Sutherland. He was in the Korean War. He was also stationed in Guam and the Philippines.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, June; and three brothers, Carl, Richard and Harold Swiney.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; and his mother-in-law, Lois Ross, of the home. He is also survived by one sister, Glenna Johnson, Nevada; one daughter, Linda Ledbetter, St. Louis; four sons, Richard "Rick" Swiney, Vienna, Ill., David Leimkiller, Nevada, William "Bill" Swiney, Yucaipa, Calif., and James "Jim" Swiney of Norco, Calif.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6--8 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bob Textor, Pastor Rod Hillhouse and Pastor Richard H. Swiney officiating. Burial with full military honors will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lemay, Mo. Services are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
