Culprits have car trouble but make getaway

Burglars early this morning left a trail of two abandoned automobiles and stole a third after an unsuccessful raid on the Brooks Service Station in Schell City.

Vernon County Sheriff Les Hunt received the report of a burglary from Brooks at 7:10 this morning. Upon investigating the break-in, Sheriff Hunt found a car parked nearby in which most of the service station loot was found.

Included were 10 cartons of cigarettes, three boxes of candy, wrenches, and screwdrivers. Ten dollars in silver was not recovered.
