Christina Davis, of KNEM/KNMO radio in Nevada fulfilled her promise to her parents by donating 12 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love program. Both of Davis' parents died from cancer and had asked her to help children with cancer to feel better about themselves and improve their quality of life. Her parents had been concerned about cancer patients who lose their hair during their treatments and wanted to alleviate some of the anxiety often caused by that hair loss.

"Today would have been my Mom's birthday," Davis explained. "I'm doing this in memory of her, my Dad and for all cancer victims."

Terri Webb, owner of E'Klips Hair Designsand Spa did the snip and added Davis' locks to the other nine already collected. The hair will be sent to Locks of Love and made into wigs for cancer victims.

Since early March, E'Klips and KNEM/KNMO have also been collecting money for the Vernon County Cancer Relief fund.

A local non-profit, volunteer organization, the VCCR keeps all money collected within Vernon County to help local cancer victims and their families with medical needs and to help maintain a high quality of life for them.

The money was presented to VCCR secretary Carol Branham on March 22. A total of $400 was donated.

"We hope to make this an annual event," Davis said.

Hair for the Locks of Love program can be donated at any time. Also, donations to the Vernon County Cancer Relief fund can be made any time.
