A get-acquainted social was held at Greenfield's Harvest House Restaurant 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, for the eight princess and eight queen candidates competing for this year's youth fair royalty titles.
A light meal was served and the young ladies got a chance to chat briefly with one another before the group got down to the serious business of trying to become a royal representative of the Vernon County Youth Fair.
Each of the candidates got the chance to introduce themselves and the organization they represent before reading a brief statement about what the Youth Fair means to them.
When introductions were finished, Dana Cavener, chairman of the contest committee, spoke to the group. Calling the girls' "the cream of the crop," Cavener gave them a little information on the process and events involved in the queen contest.
The judging process was outlined and the way a candidate should and should not act was touched upon.
Finally, each of the contestants was given the chance to practice introducing themselves to the judges, taking a seat, and answering a sample question before the social ended.
