The Nevada Lady Tigers placed third out of five teams at their 2005 invitational Monday at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course.
The Lady Tigers finished nine shots behind Carl Junction, which won the tournament, and six strokes behind Joplin.
The tournament was set up with each team having two individuals play 18 holes, and the lowest score of the two counted toward the team score.
Two more players from each team played 18 holes of best-ball, with that score going toward the team mark.
The final part of the team score was a nine-hole scramble, with each team entering two more players in the scramble format.
Nevada's Tabitha Pitts and Emily Benbrook played as individuals, with Pitts shooting 100 to take third overall. Benbrook shot 108.
Aubrey Jones and May Ling Butterfield played the best-ball format for Nevada, combining to shoot 109.
Eleanor Horst and Lakyn Mansfield teamed to shoot a 60 in the 9-hole scramble portion of the event for Nevada.
Nevada's team score of 269 was good enough to beat Pleasant Hill (295) and Clinton (283).
In the individual competition Aimee Kaiser of Clinton was the medalist with a 91.
Finishing second individually was Raine Lounis of Seneca (94), which did not have a complete team.
"We kind of had a long day," Nevada coach Brian Leonard said. "Tabitha also kind of had an off day. She's been shooting better."
Leonard said that he wasn't disappointed with the tournament, since it was the first of the season for the Lady Tigers.
"We'd had so much rain the grass in front of the greens and along the fairways had gotten thick," Leonard said.
As the tournament host, Leonard was happy.
"I think the tournament went well," he said.
Leonard was focusing on the future with his team instead of dwelling on their third-place finish.
"I hope this will get their mind going for what will happen the rest of the season," he said.
