Walker event changed
Walker Fall Fun Days are no more, well, sort of. After a disappointing festival last year a new group was formed consisting of the Fun Days Committee, the Walker Fire Department and the Windriders Motorcycle Club. This year the group plans to hold two events in April on the same day, April 22, an arts and crafts show and a bass fishing tournament.
"We thought it would be a good idea to have something for the men to do during the craft fair," Daneta Jett, Walker Community Enrichment Committee chairperson, said. "They didn't seem too enthused about a craft fair."
The group hopes that the events will help fund more than just festivals, they want to be a positive force for good in the area.
"We don't want to just do festivals, but raise money for those who need help," Jett said. "If a kid needs shoes to play baseball we can buy them, if an older lady's gutter falls down we can buy one and replace it. And not just in Walker itself but outside of town as well."
Jett said the arts and craft fair is open to the public with a one dollar admission or vendors could rent booth space.
"They could bring anything from homemade jellies and jams to candles to paintings," Jett said. "Anything arts and crafty that could be used for home decor."
Jett was forthright is saying the committee could use some more help.
"We're always needing extra hands," Jett said. "If anyone else in the community wants to get involved and help others they can get in touch with me or anyone on the committee. Helping our community, that's what it's ultimately all about."
In addition to the arts and craft fair in April the group moved Fun Days to June.
"It'll be the first weekend in June from now on," Jett said. "This year it will be the second, third and fourth."
