Minnie M. Shumaker
Minnie M. Shumaker, 87, formally of Carthage died at 2:55 a.m., Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the Greenbriar Nursing Home, Joplin. She was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Knox Township, Benton County, N.D., and was the daughter of the late Ernest Joseph and Daizy Delia "Smith" Young. Minnie married Franklin A. Shumaker Sr., on Aug. 18, 1935, in Mt. Vernon, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1979.
Mrs. Shumaker was a homemaker and worked at Cottey College in food services and clerked at Horner's Grocery, both in Nevada, Mo. Mrs Shumaker served alongside her husband as pastor's wife ministering to churches in Nevada, Anderson and Joplin, Mo. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Joplin, and a former member of Bible Baptist Church, Carthage, Mo. She was also a member of the Carthage Extension Club No. 25.
Survivors include two sons, Franklin A. Jr., and his wife Cathy, of Marshall, Texas, W. Leon and his wife Wenona, of Joplin; one daughter, Donna L. Olley and her husband Stephen of New Mexico; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Shumaker, widow of Robert of Del Ray Oaks, Calif.; one brother, Chester A. Young and his wife Ruth of LaMesa, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shumaker was preceded in death by a son Robert W. of Modesto, on Oct. 26, 1986, and three sisters and three brothers.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel, Carthage. Burial was at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Joplin or the charity of donor's choice incare of Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.
