Summer school was never more fun. In an event that's become a tradition at Nevada Middle School, students make and race boats made from cardboard and duct tape, testing concepts learned in the classroom. Enough boats were entered (16) that two different heats were required to get all contestants in the water. After the speed competition, the race turned into an endurance contest to see which boats lasted the longest. First heat winners: Delia Locker, Sable Smith, Kaylee Hawks and Kori Trotter. Second heat winners: Blake Kutina, Dominic Newport, Nick Hood. Endurance winners: first place; Blake Kutina, Dominic Newport, Nick Hood. Second place (tie): Tayler Davis, Colby Moorhouse, Jeremy Zatar and Tyler Raney; and Rees Noble, Shelby Wilson and Kirsten Van Der Schaaf. Julie West and Janet Guthrie taught the class.
