Summer brings camping season
Nevada Daily Mail
Since the official first day of summer, June 21, has come and gone, families everywhere are planning or beginning their vacations. There are many activities and places to go, but a national pastime is the campground.
Whether it's in a tent, recreational vehicle or cabin, people are enjoying the lazy days of summer with nature. This week marks National Camping Week, which is basically a week to check for discounts on local campgrounds for consumers, and to promote camping as a vacation option for campgrounds.
Locally, there is Candle Creek Park, mainly an RV facility, hosting visitors that are passing through or here for an event. Campers in RVs have made stops in Nevada to take part in radio-controlled vehicle races hosted by Candle Creek as well.
Opportunities abound throughout the state for tent campers as well.
Camping etiquette dictates that it is rude to walk across another camper's site, experts say that its best to walk around it. Also, limit the play of noisy games to the campgrounds recreation area. Obey campground hours -- they are their for a reason. Voices, radios, and other noises carry farther on a quiet summer night. Pack out what was packed in, and leave the campsite cleaner than what it was. Also, if a pet is at the site with the family, it's important to clean up after it. Do not leave the dog tied to a tree, unattended. Do not cut living trees for firewood. Do not clean fish or wash dishes in lakes or stream. Waste water should not be dumped in a lake, stream or on the ground. It is important that campers know the campgrounds rules and respect them.
