Election results still not official

The election results of the Vernon County prosecutor's race have not yet been certified. Vernon County Clerk Tammi Beach and a crew continued the process of carefully going over the ballot totals from each precinct and verifying the validity of the results this morning.
The latest information shows that challenger Jeff Feuquay has edged veteran prosecutor Lynn Ewing III by a single vote. Tuesday evening, it appeared for a while that Ewing had won by a two-vote margin, but a handful of votes cast in the clerk's office, which are tallied last, hadn't been included in the total at the time. By Wednesday morning, the tally was 1,251 for Feuquay and 1,250 for Ewing. Radio personality Russ Warren commented that the situation was unique in his 35-year experience.
"I've been in this business 35 years and I can't recall anything like this," Warren said. "I've seen a lot of elections but this one is something else."
Beach expects the canvassing and certification process to be completed today. A hand recount, if undertaken, could take a few more days.
