Everyone is gearing up for the season championship this week. We have three divisions that have not yet been decided. In the Late Model division, Jack Simmons is back in the lead with a 210-point advantage over Donnie Timmerman. The Modified is even closer, Craig Wood once again leading Kevin Morrow by 60 points. Street Stock finds Denny Chrisenbery still in the lead, but only by 60 points over Karl Lehmann. Shawn Hendren has captured the Points Championship in the Factory Stock Division and Matt Rose will be the new track champion in the Mini Stock Division. The kids took to the track this last week during intermission for the annual bike race, with some fast peddling, some spills and a lot of excitement. Winners in each division received a trophy and everyone participating received a free drink ticket. The racing is always exciting at Nevada Speedway and you never know what will happen.

Late Model heat race winners were Mark Daye, Webb City, and Jack Simmons, Erie, Kan. Daye jumped into the lead at the start of the Feature with Simmons right on his bumper. Daye went spinning, collecting Rick Cash, Shannon Phillips and Randy Reynolds. The yellow flew closing the field behind Simmons for the restart. Another yellow flew as Cash and Reynolds tangled, sending both cars into the wall. Simmons led the field back to the green flag with Donnie Timmerman all over the back of his car. As Timmerman attempted to pass on the inside they bumped together resulting in Timmerman getting a flat tire. Simmons was again in the lead for the restart and collected the win, his seventh of the season.

Modified heat race winners were Brian Bolin and Brent Bollinger, both from Fort Scott, Kan. Timothy Snethen went into the wall at the start of the Feature and was hit by Jay Laymmons Jr. An original lineup restart was called after the track was cleared. Bolin got the lead on the restart. Another yellow flew as Brian Hall and Kevin Morrow got their bumpers hooked together and had to be untangled. This closed the field behind Bolin for the restart. Bolin maintained the lead and collected the win, his second of the season.

Street Stock heat race winners were Karl Lehmann, Nevada, and Denny Chrisenbery, Bronaugh. Lehmann jumped into the lead at the start of the Feature. A yellow flew as Bobby King lost power and coasted to a stop. This closed the field behind Lehmann for the restart. Another yellow flew as Pat Cox stopped on the track with a fire under the hood. Cox quickly exited the car and the fire was extinguished. Lehmann again led the field to the green flag. A red flew as Robbie Love lost parts all over the track and had to be towed to the pits. While this was going on, the track officials were busy making sure they got all the parts that could cut a tire off the track. Lehmann led this race start to finish to collect the win, his fifth of the season.

Factory Stock heat race winners were Joey Davenport, Girard, Kan., and Chris Hendren, Nevada. Davenport got the lead at the start of the Feature. Chris Hendren went spinning, closing the field behind Davenport for the restart. Mark Selsor brought out another yellow as he spun into the infield and kept going all the way to the other end of the track before finally coming to a stop. Davenport led start to finish to collect the win, his third of the season.

Mini Stock heat race winners were Chris Diamond, Nevada, and Brent Knight, Jasper. Knight got the lead at the start of the Feature. Mark Maneval got into the wall scraping it all the way down the front straight. The yellow flag flew and closed the field behind Knight for the restart. Just as the white flag flew, Knight went spinning and Chris Diamond, who had been chasing him down all race, collected the win, his first of the season.

The kids in the first four bicycle races only raced down the front straight to the checkered flag, while the 11-13 year olds raced all the way around the track. The 3-4 year old winner was Coby Burchet, Liberal. The 5-6 year old winner was Starr Summers, Nevada. The 7-8 year old winner was Kaden Bolin, Fort Scott, Kan. The 9-10 year old race was won by Brandon King, with Steven Palmer taking the win in the 11-13 year old race.
