Nevada Speedway report -- Sept. 16

Excitement was in the air Saturday night as the girls were ready to take their chance at racing around the track. Also, some very ugly trucks competed in the Ugly Truck Contest. Justin Luther took home the trophy again this year. All drivers drew for their starting positions with finishes in the heats determining their starting positions in the Features. Olin Wyland gave everyone a scare as he and Karl Lehmann got together, sending Wyland rolling. The car landed on its top and Wyland was able to climb out without injury. There were first time winners Saturday. Daniel Jessen won his first Late Model Feature, Dustin Beisley won his first Street Stock Feature and Aaron Fillpot captured his first Factory Stock win. For Beisley and Fillpot it was their very first win. Jessen said he had won in another division previously, but had just switched to a Late Model. Eddie Fox was presented a Sportsman of the Year award at intermission. Next week will feature a Mechanics Race. Oct. 8 will be a drivers' rules meeting starting at 3 p.m., with a Swap Meet scheduled for Oct. 14, at the Speedway. The racing is always exciting at Nevada Speedway and you never know what will happen.
The Late Model heat race winners were Kerry Schulze, Moundville, and Bill Humble Jr., Rich Hill. Schulze got the lead at the start of the Feature. Donnie Timmerman and Daniel Jessen were both trying to pass Schulze for the lead. Timmerman on the low side and Jessen on the high side for quite a few laps. A yellow flew as Chuck Redlon went spinning. This closed the field behind Schulze for the restart. Schulze maintained the lead with Timmerman and Jessen once again trying to pass. Jessen was able to gain the lead with Schulze coming right back. Timmerman tried to make it three wide but quickly decided there wasn't enough room and Schulze regained the lead. Jeff Johnson went spinning bringing out the yellow and closing the field behind Schulze for the restart. As the three raced for the lead Jessen was able to pull ahead and captured the win, his first win in a late model.
The Modified heat race winners were Kevin Morrow, Nevada. and Craig Wood, El Dorado Springs. Morrow jumped into the lead at the start of the Feature and never looked back as he collected the win.
The Street Stock heat race winners were Dustin Wyland, Mulberry, Kan., and Dustin Beisley, Fort Scott, Kan. Dustin Wyland got the lead at the start of the Feature. Beisley tried to pass on both the high side of the track and the low side but Wyland held him off. A yellow flew, which closed the field behind Wyland for the restart. Wyland and Beisley raced side by side for several laps before Beisley was able to gain the lead. Olin Wyland and Karl Lehmann were racing side by side for the position when Wyland got sideways, was over the front of Karl Lehmann and then the car rolled coming to rest on its top. A red flag flew and Wyland was able to climb from the car with only bumps and bruises but the car was a mess. Beisley was in the lead on the restart and captured the win, his very first ever win.
The Factory Stock heat race winners were John Null, Nevada, and Aaron Fillpot, Webb City. Fillpot got the lead at the start of the Feature. A yellow flew as Darren Dennison went spinning, collected Justin Wald, and then went into the retaining tires. Fillpot was in the lead on the restart and never looked back as he claimed the win, his very first ever win.
The Mini Stock heat race winners were Matt Rose, Liberal, and Chris Diamond, Nevada. Rose got the lead at the start of the Feature. Jerry Wilson went spinning, bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Rose for the restart. Scott Mohlfeld had just taken the lead when another yellow flew as Warren Highley and Brandon Leer got together and both went spinning. Rose was placed back in the lead for the restart and never looked back as he collected the win.
