PLEASANTON, Kan. -- A 13-0 lead over a perennial playoff contender at halftime fell by the wayside Friday night when visiting Sedan rallied to defeat Pleasanton, 14-13, in a non-league contest.
The Blu-Jays saw Josh Fairbanks score on a three-yard run with 9:17 left in the first quarter and Danny McCullough kick the extra point.
Fairbanks connected with Rylan Bortzfield 32 seconds into the second quarter from 18 yards out but this time, the PAT was no good. That would prove to be the difference.
A four-yard run by Dykes brought Sedan within seven and Bane ran in the two-point conversion to close the deficit to 13-8 with 3:29 left in the third quarter.
No much later, with 10:32 on the clock, Bane caught a 12-yard scoring pass from McCoy to put the Blue Devils ahead.
Sedan improved to 3-1 on the season while Pleasanton fell to 1-3.
The Devils outgained the Jays in rushing yards (201 to 139) though each team ran the ball 40 times. Pleasanton held a 62-48 edge in passing yards as Fairbanks completed four of eight attempts.
Fairbanks also rushed for 84 yards on 21 carries while Josh Scritchfield gained 45 on 11 totes. Scritchfield was also the leading receiver in yardage, 23, as he was one of four Blu-Jays with a reception.
Elijah Barber led the defense with 14 tackles. Kodee McKee followed with 13.
Pleasanton plays a Three Rivers League game at Oswego Friday.
