Uniontown clinches postseason berth

HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- Gage McKinnis' 213-yard, four-touchdown rushing performance gave Uniontown a 34-7 win over Humboldt in Kansas Class 2-1A, District 5 play Friday night and clinched a playoff berth for the Eagles.

Uniontown (2-0 district, 7-1 overall) will host Pittsburg Colgan (2-0, 8-0) for the district championship Thursday night. Colgan was a 44-6 winner over Pleasanton Friday night.

Humboldt, the Tri-Valley League champion, fell to 0-2, 6-2 and was eliminated from the playoffs.

Uniontown and Colgan will be playing for the better position on the Class 2-1A playoff bracket Thursday night. The winner of that game will host a Bi-District Playoff Game. The loser will have to go on road in that round.

Quarterback Chad Hays put the Eagles on the board with a 17-yard run in the first quarter. Zach Mason kicked the extra point.

McKinnis scored the first of his four touchdowns when he ran in from eight yards out later in the quarter. Mason again connected on the PAT.

McKinnis had a four-yard score to make it 20-0 at halftime. He scored on 90- and 32-yard runs in the fourth with Mason converting both.

Devin Onnen posted Humboldt's only score with 1:06 left in the contest.

Uniontown had 318 total yards, rushing for 282 on 45 carries. Hays had 65 yards on 15 carries while completing four of eight passes for 36 yards.

Humboldt managed only 106 rushing yards on 41 carries and seven passing yards. McKinnis and Travis Aikins each intercepted Cub passes.

Jamie Shelton and Travis Stewart each had 10 tackles for Uniontown.
