El Dorado Springs man killed in crash near Joplin, Monday

An El Dorado Springs man was killed Monday in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 71 Highway, about 5 miles south of Joplin, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

At about 1:18 p.m., 67-year-old Edward F. McMurray was driving a 1997 Kenworth southbound on U.S. 71, when the vehicle ran into the median, drove between two bridges and vaulted into a creek bed, where it caught fire, according to the report.

Newton County Deputy Coroner Lee Ireland responded to the accident and McMurray was pronounced dead at the scene.
