Lula M. Fast
Lula M. Fast, age 89, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., passed away at the Community Springs Nursing Home, El Dorado Springs, on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007. Lula was born on May 24, 1917, in Montevallo, Mo., the daughter of Walter and Ella (Leedy) Steward.
Lula was the seventh of eight children. She attended school at Montevallo. She was saved as a young woman at Glade Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Lula married Russell G. Fast on April 17, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1993. To this union there were five children born, Delmar, Jimmie, Dale, R.D. "Pete," Patsy and Dennis Gene.
Lula was a homemaker and also worked in the lunch room in the El Dorado Springs school system for several years. Following that she worked in the kitchen at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She was a hard worker and wonderful cook. Family member, distant and close, talked about good meals they received at her home. Lots of people enjoyed her cookies, pies and cinnamon rolls. She loved gardening and working and living on the farm. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Lula is survived by one daughter, Patsy (Fast-Barnes) Ozkal and husband Sinan of Nevada; four sons, Delmar, Jim Dale and wife Ruby, Pete and wife Murnie, all of El Dorado Springs, and Dennis Gene and wife Cheryl of Bolivar, Mo.; grandchildren, Kim and Dwain Roland, Christi and David Benham, Pam and Joe Crafton, Greg Fast, Angie Sylvester, Aaron Barnes and wife Lorrie, Steven R. Fast and wife Sarah, Janet and Jeff Beckmann, Amy and Nick Baker, Marsha Barnes, Jeremy Fast and wife Joann, Felicia and Johan DeKlein, Josh Fast, Anna and Amanda Fast, April (Ozkal) Krebs, Derek, Kevin and Devin Ozkal, Cathy Graham, Missy Arlint, Carrie Myers and Patty Milligan; great-grandchildren, Justin Swager, Ethan and Trevor Fast, Seth and Mandi Sutton, Lauryn Sylvester, Cecelia and Mitchell Beckman, Samantha and Jacob Roland, Nick and Ami Crafton, Blake A. Barnes, Andi Baker, Taylor and Jerica Fast, A.J. Krebs, Jason and Scott Arlint, Chris Bailey and Kendra (Milligan) Biber; great-great-grandchildren, Brian Hamilton Fast and Cholee Crafton; one sister, Edna Mae Jones of Community Springs Nursing Home; nieces, nephews and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell and great-grandson, Nathanial Sutton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m., a the Hackleman Chapel, El Dorado Springs, with Howard Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 7-8 p.m.
Music provided by Karen Arnold and Becky Gazaway. Pallbearers are Greg, Steven R., Jeremy and Josh Fast, Aaron Barnes and Seth Sutton. Honorary pallbearers are Ethan and Trevor Fast. Burial will be in the Virgil City Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.
