Area drivers clean up, winning four of five races

What a night with $1,500 to win the Late Model Feature, plus an excellent fireworks display and lots of action on a dry, slick track. On July 14 there will be a $500-to-win Street Stock Special, which should be equally as exciting. Mini Stock driver Dakota Singmaster started the evening off with a bang as he went into the cement retaining wall at the start of the first heat race.
There are regular nights of racing as well as many special races at the biggest little racetrack in the country.
Late Model heat race winners were Marty Danner, Joplin, and Randy Zimmerman, Fort Scott. Chris Hawkins got the lead at the start of the Feature with Donnie Timmerman and Zimmerman right on his bumper. The balance of the field fell behind as those three raced for the lead. Zimmerman was trying to slip between Hawkins and Timmerman for several laps before he was able to gain the lead. The yellow flew as Jerry Morgan went spinning and this closed the field behind Zimmerman for the restart. Just as the field was coming to the green Daniel Anders got turned around and caution was back on the track. Brantlee Gotschall raced through the field to catch the leaders. Then he raced side by side with Zimmerman before gaining the lead. Another yellow flew as Marty Danner took a wild ride off the back straight. Gotschall led the field to the green, maintained the lead and collected the win, his second of the season. Along with the win and the trophy, he received a $1,500 check.
Modified heat race winners were Tim Setzer, Archie and Ryan Whitworth, Chanute. At the beginning of the heat race Darren Danner got sideways, collecting Kevin Morrow and Ray Maloney. Setzer got the lead at the start of the Feature. Brian Bolin raced side by side with Setzer for several laps, first one in front and then the other, before Bolin was able to gain the lead. The yellow flew as Morrow lost pieces of a tire on the track and this closed the field behind Bolin for the restart. Bolin maintained the lead through the balance of the race to collect his fourth win of the season.
Street Stock heat race winners were Zach Marsh, Fort Scott, and Karl Lehmann, Nevada. Aaron Murray got the lead at the start of the Feature. Marsh came from a couple rows back in the field to claim the lead. Dustin Wyland, who was trying the low line to pass Chris Rodabaugh, spun bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Marsh for the restart. Kenny Shaw and Kris Nelson got together sending Nelson into the wall and another yellow flag flew. Marsh again led the field to the green flag and never looked back as he claimed the win, his sixth of the season. Marsh has a comfortable lead in the points standings.
Factory Stock heat race winners were Billy Shadden, Osawatomie, and Cody Elnicki, Girard. After two tries the Feature was underway with Elnicki and Mark Selsor raced side by side around the track for a number of laps, first one inched ahead of the other and then back again. Elnicki was finally able to gain the lead. Everyone held their breath as Mark Godsey went spinning. Jordan McDermed went high and Darren Dennison went low to avoid hitting him. The yellow flew and Elnicki was in the lead for the restart. Shawn Hendren chased down Elnicki and they raced side by side before Hendren was able to gain the lead. Hendren was able to maintain the lead and collected the win, his third of the season.
Mini Stock heat race winners were Jerry Wilson, Liberal, and Brent Knight, Jasper. At the beginning of the first heat Dakota Singmaster went into the cement wall ending his evening of racing. Josh McKay got the lead at the start of the Feature. Brent Knight chased him down. As they raced for the lead the balance of the field was left behind. Knight challenged for a number of laps before he was able to gain the lead. Knight held the lead through the balance of the race to collect the win, his fourth of the season.
