Fern Yokley
Fern Yokley was born Dec. 11, 1919, and passed away Aug. 1, 2007, at the age of 87. She was the third of ten children born to Liel Webster Short and Katie (Bewley) Short. She had four sisters: Wretha, Oleta, Kathleen, and Irma Jean, and five brothers: Harry, Warren, Merl, Winfred, and Howard.
Fern married Jake Yokley on March 5, 1941, at the home of Rowena Thomas in rural Vernon County, Mo. They had four children, Gary Allen Yokley and his wife, Sharon, of Liberal, Mo.; Joseph Charles Yokley and his wife, Shirley, of Bronaugh, Mo.; Lois Anne Mahnken and her husband, John, of Fort Scott, Kan.; and Linda Sue Weaver and her husband, Ed, of Liberal. All survive. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, extended family, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, Harry, Merl, and Warren Short, and two sisters, Retha and Oleta.
Fern was a Christian with a strong belief in God. She loved God, her family, and her many friends.
Fern and Jake Yokley farmed near Arcadia, Kan. until Jake passed away in 1985. Fern then moved to Liberal where she lived the remainder of her life. She enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, and caring for her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in McKill Cemetery, southwest of Bronaugh.
