Nevada man fights for his life after being struck by vehicle

Jason Hallam, Nevada, is in a Joplin hospital "fighting for his life" family members said, after Hallam was struck by a vehicle in an incident at Elmwood Estates at about 9 p.m., Tuesday.

Details released by police are sketchy so far, but Nevada police said that officers had responded to a report of an assault with a motor vehicle, and that two people were taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Hallam suffered serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a Joplin hospital where he is "holding his own," a woman identifying herself as Hallam's aunt said, adding that at last word was on a ventilator.

A statement released by the Nevada Police Department said that the investigation is ongoing and information will be forwarded to the Vernon County Prosecutor's Office.

I dont really understand why the paper lacks so much information. I mean not only was this man hit and drug down the road by the car but once he broke loose from under the car the people stopped and backed up running him over again. Then took off and then caused physical harm to themselves and turned there selves into the police hoping that if they killed jason that they would get off with a plea of self defenses. Tell me this isnt something that should be on the news instead of in the paper. Nevada's city officials are so corrupt that they try and hide the negative things that happen in the town and cover them up as though they never happened.... If you ask me this should have move publicity then and other activities in nevada. Though I am not in nevada right now I would be willing to bet that the paper put the pennies in the pool on the front page and left the story line of attempted murder by assault with a vehicle out of the front page and lost somwhere in the middle... What a shame....

I JUST HAVE TO SAY IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE THAT SOME ONE FINNALLY STOOD UP AND SAID WHAT SO MANY OF US ARE THINKING ABOUT THIS LITTLE TOWN WE CALL"nevada",

ALSO, SOMETHING ELSE ELMWOOD IS A LOW INCOME HOUSING AREA, IS THAT WHY THE CONCERN WAS NOT THERE IF IT HAD BEEN OVER BY THE COUNTRY CLUB AREA WOULD THAT HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE, AND YES THIS HAPPENED AT 9PM, BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF CHILDREN THAT LIVE IN THOSE APPARTMENTS, WHAT IF IT HAD BEEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON DURING SUMMER BREAK AND THE KIDS WERE OUTSIDE PLAYING, WOULD THAT HAVE MERRITED A NEWSBRODCAST, WELL GUESS WHAT "jASON WAS SOMEONES LITTLE BOY... REGAURDLESS OF HIS AGE. AND WHAT ABOUT THE 2 GUYS THAT ARE BEING CHARGED WITH THE CRIME, IF THEY DO GET OFF WITH A LESSOR CHARGE WHAT WILL THAY GET.5-7YRS. ISN'T IT ASHAME THAT SOME ONE WHO ALMOST TAKES SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE ONLY SPENDS 2-4 YEARS MORE TIME IN PRISON THEN SOMEONE WHO GETS CAUGHT DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE. ISN'T THAT SAD.!!!

I wanted to respond to the issue set fourth below... In nevada not only are the cops crooked so are the people we have elected or are maintaining the office that we seem to think hold the respect of the town. We all know of judges and attorneys busted for crimes and never serving a day in prison for the same exact issues they put people in prison for and to the people that know these issues we are disgusted with these facts. I hate to think of all the people some of course I am still friends with and hold major offices in the town that doing things daily that some people are spending time in prison for. My response isnt to let anyone know something new it is only to agree with and be it known that the issues of nevada a town I thought was great and had merit is now going down the drain. In nevada it isnt if you do the right thing or not it is how much money you have and who you are. I knew jason as he was a few years younger then me and played football on a team that went to state in 1999 when was the last time we went to state or even had a team worth mentioning? It doesnt matter if the guy is poor, rich, black or white. The issue is nevada with holds the information from the public to continue to make nevada seem like a perfect little town. This has been the only story that I have even read about Jason and though I have been trying to read the paper everyday to see if there are any additional stories to tell of him or his recovery but i have yet to see anything. I wish I had a column in this paper I could write my opinions and views everyday and then pray that someone will hear my message.

Well, it has been about a month since this "incident" and I totally agree that this "nice" little town needs some help! I have to say I like the town, it is the people and the so-called justice system that makes it frustrating to live in Nevada. Enough on that subject! I didn't know Jason, but let me say a few things. I was there when the incident happened, though I was inside and only heard screams. Yes, I tried to do something, but was told the matter was being taken care of. Not all people who live in Elmwood suck. I am not going to tell you much about me, but just say I either was a resident or am a resident of Elmwood. I was/am in Elmwood not due to drugs, drinking, etc., I do neither, but because I lost my house to a fire. And, I am going to school to better myself. So, yes, this is crap that this story was only mentioned in a small paragraph, that unless you were looking for it you wouldn't be able to see it. I don't care where a person has been, Jason deserved more honor and mention than this. NO-ONE deseves to be ran over! I don't care what prompted the anger..it was senseless. And, furthermore, security was suppose to be at Elmwood, where were they? Okay, to be fair, I know that they are trying to "clean" up Elmwood, but it only takes a few bad eggs to ruin a place...

did the paper mention that the people who ran over this guy multiple times and even stabbed him numerous times before running over him breaking his ribs arms legs etc. that the great justice system of nevada let these men out? Did it mention when it was said that he was fighting for his life that he actually was attacked by more then one guy? The paper never even followed up on the story is that poor editorial work or is it that the paper trys to keep the true story out of the publics eye. Has the paper ever completed a report on the way the justice system is handled and the way it believes that the people in nevada who are in the "system" acts as though they are above the system? This upsets me that a guy who deserves the same respect and publisity that would be given if a doctor had this done to them. The fact is this the age old statement that all men are created equal is true but the way the are treated depends on who they are where they are from and how much money the have or stuff in the the politicians pockets of nevada.
