Cornerstone Baptist Church to celebrate 5th anniversary

submitted photo-- Cornerstone Baptist Church, 427 N. Cedar St., Nevada, will celebrate its 5th anniversary this weekend.

The congregation of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Nevada, located at 427 N. Cedar, will be celebrating their 5th Anniversary this Sunday, Oct. 28, in their newly renovated building. The anniversary celebration will begin with the 10:30 a.m. worship service, the Rev. Curtis Townley, director of Missions for the Osage River Baptist Association will be the keynote speaker.

The morning services, as well as the open house and wiener roast, noon-2 p.m., are open to the public. Casual dress is welcomed.

Cornerstone Baptist church was established as a new church plant in October of 2002 under the auspices of the Church Planting Department of the Missouri Baptist Convention in conjunction with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Conven-tion.

The church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Missouri Baptist Convention, and the Osage River Baptist Association. Dr. Mel Mabra is the pastor.

The Cornerstone congregation has ministered to the Nevada community through a monthly food pantry; singing and worship services at Moore-Few Care Center on the fifth Sunday of each month; and to the Silver Oak Care Center on the third Sunday of the month.

The ladies group has encouraged the residents at the Silver Oak Care Center by providing ice cream and cake to celebrate monthly birthdays. Sunday morning services start with Sunday school for all age groups at 9:30 a.m.; worship at 10:30 a.m.; and evening worship at 6 p.m. Midweek Bible study is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
