John Martin Jeffries
John Martin Jeffries, 77, Nevada, passed away on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center, in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Nevada, to Isaac Francis Jeffries and Elsie Mildred Smith Jeffries. He married Florence Irene Richards on June 25, 1950, in Lucedale, Miss., and she survives of the home.
John attended Nevada schools and was recently among several veterans receiving honorary G.E.D.'s from Nevada High School. At the age of 18, John entered the United States Air Force where he served from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. Following his time in the service, he worked as an electrician for the City of Rich Hill, in the electrical power plant. John then worked for Dabmer Electric in Nevada for 45 years until his retirement in 1992. He pastored several small churches in the area during his life including: Deerfield Baptist Church, Sylvandale Baptist Church, Arthur, Mo., Baptist Church, Girard, Kan., Baptist Church, Caplinger Mills Baptist Church and most recently the Milo Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife Irene, include five children; Shelia Griffin and her husband Gene, Nevada, Bruce Jeffries and his wife Karen, Sheldon, Bill Jeffries and his wife Nancy, Nevada, Steve Jeffries and his wife Brenda, Millbrook, Ala., and Cindy Vandenburg and her husband Mike, Metz; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Wagner and her husband Daniel, Nevada, and their children Ryan and Seth Chanove; Pamela Richmond and her husband Gary, Nevada, and their children Kyla West and Braxton Richmond; David Jeffries and his children, Ashton Brandon, and Brayden Dixon, Amanda Ehrlich and her husband Charlie, of W.Va.; Rebecca Jeffries, Josh Jeffries, Scotty Jeffries, Audrey Jeffries, of Millbrook, Ala., Steven Jeffries, Millbrook, Ala., and Sharon, Ashley, and Katlynn Vandenburg, Metz; and one brother Isaac Jeffries, Jr., Springdale, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Allene Roberts and Rose Belt Chapman, and one brother, Billy Jeffries
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada, with military honors. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the funeral home.
