Nevada's Hinkle medals at state meet
JEFFERSON CITY -- Nevada senior Trevor Hinkle capped his high school cross country career in style with an all-state performance Saturday afternoon.
Hinkle placed 20th overall in the Class 3 Missouri State Cross Country Meet with a time of 16:54 to earn a medal.
He was 12th in the standings involving runners from teams who qualified for the state meet.
The top-25 overall times received a medal and earned all-state honors.
Hinkle, who finished third at last year's district meet, finished 30th at last year's state meet. It marked the third time Hinkle qualified for the state meet.
Nevada, which competed in its first state cross country meet in 13 years, scored 359 points and finished 15th of 16 teams.
Tigers' freshman Stephen Jenkins finished 68th among team runners with a time of 18:41 while sophomore Todd Brier was close behind at 18:47 and in 72nd place. Senior Jacob Query finished 99th in 19:27 while freshman Mike Bray finished 108th in 21:04. Josh Newman's 21:51 placed him 111th.
Potosi, which featured individual state champ Jacob Swearingen (16 minutes), totaled 78 points to win the state meet.
West Plains was a close second place at 87 points and Notre Dame third with 104 points..
The Tigers are guided by sixth-year head coach Robert Watts.
