City begins leaf pick-up

Tuesday, November 20, 2007
Nevada City employees; Bob Kerbs, Pat Caviness, Rick Reasoner, Mark Godsey, Skip Jenkins, and John Peavler, kicked off the city's annual fall leaf pick up yesterday. Seen on West Wight St. at the time, the crew will be making its way through the Southwest part of town, then weather permitting moving to the Northwest sometime next week. Nevada Public works explained that this year they will be making three sweeps of the city instead of the usual two due to the increased demand for the service. Leaf pick up crew members wanted to remind area residence that in order to retrieve the leaves from a yard they must be at the curb; otherwise the vacuum truck hose cannot reach them. The entire operation is expected to take between two and three months; however, bad weather can slow the process a great deal. --Justin Messner/Daily Mail
