Golf course committee meeting set for Wednesday evening
If you play golf at the Frank E. Peters Golf Course or just have an interest in the course, the Nevada Parks Board would like to know what you think is needed to improve the course.
The parks board's Twin Lakes complex subcommittee will be holding a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the City/County Community Cen-ter, Nevada, to discuss the needs at the golf course.
"We want to know what the golfers think would improve the course and bring more people to town," Jeff Post, Twin Lakes complex subcommittee chairman, said Monday.
This subcommittee is one of three subcommittees the parks board recently set up to look at what capital improvements are needed at the community center, Earp Park and the municipal golf course, to be paid for with the city's 1/2-cent park and recreation sales tax.
The Twin Lakes subcommittee has already met once to work on the youth athletic field needs at Twin Lakes, which include soccer, football, baseball and softball fields as well as concession stands and restrooms.
"Now we want to have a brainstorming session for the golf course,"Post said.
The parks board has already determined that the entryway to the Twins Lakes complex needs to be widened to accommodate the traffic. The board also want to improve the appearance of the entrance at the same time.
Because this tax money is earmarked for capital improvements, it cannot be used for repairing the grass on the fairways or other maintenance projects -- those things will be taken care of with the regular funding for the golf course, Post said.
One possible project is improvements to the clubhouse at the course.
Post said that another possible project would be to add a second shelter on the course where golfers could get out of the weather.
However, Post said that the subcommittee needs to hear from the golfers who actually use the course about what improvements they would like to see.
