Ralph Pokorny/Daily Mail-- Nevada junior Cole Ogle goes for two points during the Nevada junior varsity's 34-32 overtime win over the Clinton Cardinals JV Thursday night.

The Nevada Tigers clawed their way to a hard fought win over the Clinton Cardinals on Tuesday.

Led by Jordan Kerbs, who had 26 points in the game, Nevada was able to improve their overall record to 4-3 by knocking off the now 6-2 Clinton Cardinals. Nevada began the game shooting 1-5 from 3-point range and 2-2 from the free throw line, leading to a 13-8 spread in their favor after the first quarter.

Nevada then went on to shoot 67 percent from the free throw line, but struggled from beyond the arc, while the Cardinals shot less than 50 percent from the line and came up empty from 3-point range in the first half. Poor shooting from the field by Nevada and good looks from inside at close range for Clinton made the game close at the break, with Nevada clinging to a 24-23 lead going into the half.

Nevada started coming to life in the third quarter, continuing their impressive free throw shooting, and adding even more to the total in 3-point shots. Clinton's shooting woes from long distance and at the line continued, as did the 3-point shooting, allowing Nevada to extend its lead to 44-38 going into the final period.

Nevada finished the game strong in their shooting, with a final total of better than 73 percent free-throw shooting but struggled with ball control and clock management near the end of the game, allowing Clinton to close what was a 10 point gap at one point to just four, but falling short in a 63-59 Tigers win.

The varsity boys weren't the only ones to taste victory. Nevada's junior varsity was able to edge out the Cardinals 34-32 in overtime.

Coach John McNeley said in a post game interview, "This was a really solid win for us. I don't know how else to term it. To be honest, I didn't think we would be talking about a win tonight." Nevada will now take some time off for winter break, and their next game is scheduled for Jan. 3, at Pleasant Hill.
